Rationale          The brief was clear so the company was a basis for research

Paula took reference shots at the site of components made over the last 60 years by the company, and researched the applications for these. Paula then made three maquettes for the proposal and from this was selected as the artist for the job. Focusing on the global company that produces parts for space projects and scientific research and through discussions one of the maquettes was refined, which Paula then developed into to a second stage design.

A new façade was to be built at the company’s headquarters and at this point, December 2006 the space allocation for the foyer changed and the area was drastically reduced. The sculptures location changed so it is now sited at the front entrance to the building within a plant setting.

Paula took on the planning consent drawings and proposal, which was approved with the only condition being the company, who were to maintain the sculpture in order to provide long-term enjoyment to employees, visitors to the site and general public.

Coincidently e2v also made parts for the synchrotron at Diamond Light Source.
